Michael "Mike" Fowler Williamson passed away peacefully at home Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010.

A memorial celebrating his life will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. James United Methodist's Family Life Ministry Center.

Mr. Williamson was born in Minneapolis, Minn. on Dec. 8, 1932, the son of the late Ralph E. Williamson and Adalyn Fowler Williamson.

He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from East Carolina University. While there, he was part of the Buccaneer Staff and, in 1957, was a member of the NAIA National Championship Swimming Team. He also served in the Navy during the Korean War. Mike was actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America and became District Scout Executive in Lee and Chatham counties. He received several honors; the Scouting Wood Badge Honor and District Award of Merit.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Lou Williamson; daughters, Debbie Smith, Trish Hamilton, and Michelle Cavaness; step-daughter, Kelly Tucker Gallagher; step-son, William Clifford "Cliff" Tucker Jr. and wife, Courtney; and nine grandchildren
